New Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant Degree Program at Rutgers
The Rutgers University Board of Governors unanimously approved a new Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant degree program within the School of Health Professions at Rutgers University.
The degree program will provide advanced skills, expand career opportunities for graduates and offer a career ladder for students who wish to pursue a doctorate in occupational therapy.
There is increasing demand and accreditation requirements for highly trained occupational therapy assistants, who contribute to the health and well-being of all populations. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of occupational therapy assistants is expected to increase 28 percent between 2016 and 2026.
With 35-plus degrees and certificates at the graduate and undergraduate level, the School of Health Professions (SHP) is the largest, most comprehensive health professions school in the nation. Degree and certificate programs are offered for both entry-level students and practicing health professionals. Undergraduate students complete their degrees at Rutgers SHP after taking general education courses at our partner schools or other accredited colleges. Graduates have a nearly 100% placement rate within the first three months of graduation.
Notification of the Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant degree program at Rutgers University will be forwarded to the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education. The Committee on Academic and Student Affairs recommended the new program to the Board of Governors on May 31, 2023.
