Rutgers University-Newark 80th Anniversary Celebration

Join us Thursday, April 30 @ 3:30pm on Norman Samuels Plaza as we kick off a year-long celebration of Rutgers–Newark’s 80th anniversary — with live jazz, food, and a campus-wide celebration bringing our community together.

Rutgers University–Newark will mark its 80th anniversary, honoring eight decades of academic excellence, innovation, and impact in the city of Newark and beyond. This special celebration will bring together alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community partners to reflect on our shared history and look ahead to the future.

Here's what to expect:

• 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM | Music, food, refreshments @ Norman Samuels Plaza
• 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM | Guest reception @ Express Newark (Shine Portrait Studio)
• 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM | Evening jazz performance @ Clement’s Place

On April 30, 1946, the “University of Newark” officially joined Rutgers University, a moment that helped shape who we are today. For 80 years, Rutgers–Newark has been a gateway to opportunity, driving impact in our city and beyond. April 30, 2026, is just the beginning. We’ll be celebrating all year long!
